What happens when you block someone on Instagram but your profile is public?

Blocking someone on Instagram with a public profile will not show your profile to them but only comments and likes on other users' accounts.

Instagram has many unique features with many control features. Overall, social media has become a panacea where one can have everything; entertainment chats with friends and families, video chats, voice and video calls, and marketing themselves.

Anyone with an idea worth sharing can use social media to become an influencer by sharing his thoughts. Anyone who has good skills can use their skills to get better results. They need a dimension to embark on the road to success.

The social media revolution came with many challenges. Newer innovations bring newer problems and challenges. But these problems are solvable and can be minimized with the help of social media itself.

Where you can make new friends and chat with many around the globe, there might be people and accounts you do not want to see anymore. It can be caused by a bad experience, speculated activities, or even a breakup. Yes! It is all part of life and social media too.

Here we can use the option of blocking by Instagram. Like all other social media platforms, Instagram allows you to block someone on your Instagram profile.

What Happens When You Block Someone on Instagram?

For example, if you don't want someone to look at your posts and content and don't want to look at his content anymore, you can block them.

If you want to know how to block someone on Instagram, scroll to read. When you block someone, you will not be able to see their content again. It varies from two perspectives. Blocking from a public profile and blocking from a private profile are different.

Blocking from a Private Account

When you block someone from a private account, you will not be able to see their content, i.e., photos, videos, Reels, or Stories. They will also be unable to find your profile and have no access to your content.

Moreover, you will have no access to their profile. Even if you search for their profile in the search bar, you will not be able to find the account. Your conversation with them in Direct Message will also disappear. You will not be able to send or receive any DM from them.

You can still block someone with a public Instagram account if you have a private account.

Blocking from a Public Accounts

If you block someone from your public account, you will no longer have access to their photos, videos, Reels, Stories, and Highlights. You will not be able to see their content anymore.

But you can still find their profile in the search bar and see their number of followers, posts, and following. Also, you can unblock the person by pressing the unblock button in place of the unfollow button.

Conversations between you both will disappear as they disappear into a private account. Direct Message will no longer be in access.

How to Block Someone from Your Public/Private Profile

Here is a complete guide to blocking someone from your private or public profile. The method to block someone from Instagram is similar in public and private profiles.

Step 1

First of all, open your Instagram mobile app.

Step 2

The next step is to open the search page, which also opens the explore page.
At the top, there is a search bar.
Name the account you want to block.

Step 3

After opening the profile of the person you want to block, click on the three dots on the top right corner of your screen.

Step 4

It opens a menu. On the top, there is a 'block' button. There is a 'report' button below it. Press block if you want to block the profile. A widget asking for confirmation will appear on the screen, asking if you want to block the other person.

After confirming yes, a small menu will appear below, giving two options. Option one is to 'block the person from all other accounts he might have or make,' and option two is to 'block the person only from that specific account.' Suppose you never want to see that person on Instagram; select option one.

Now the profile has been blocked. Both of you will not be able to see each other's content. No photos, videos, Reels, Stories, or Highlights can be accessed. You cannot send or receive any file through DM.

If your profile is public, they can still see your comments and likes on other users' accounts. Older comments and likes will also keep showing. People use other software to see the locked profiles or have blocked you or restricted them from seeing your content like a private Instagram profile viewer at full size.

Does Blocking an Instagram User Notify Him/Her?

This question often pops up in various minds while blocking someone. You can block any profile on Instagram without getting them noticed.

Instagram does not send a notification to other people of blocking. A person only comes to know that he has been blocked when he opens your profile and cannot see any content. Specific notifications are not sent to notify blocking of the profile.

For example, if Harry blocks Jenny, who has a public profile, Jenny will not know that Harry has blocked her until she opens his profile. When she opens Harry's profile, it will not show her Harry's content. All she can see is the number of posts, followers, and following.

Now, Jenny cannot send and receive any messages to Harry. Jenny still can see Harry's comments and likes on other users' content as Harry also has a public profile.

How to Unblock Someone You Blocked Earlier

It is super easy to unblock someone you blocked earlier. All you have to do is to go to the profile you blocked. It will show you the 'unblock' button instead of 'follow.'

Just press this 'unblock' button, and you will be able to see their profile with content. Now you both can see each other's content without restriction and have conversations in DM.

Restriction Options

Other options are available if you don't want to block someone but still restrict them from looking at your content. You can use the restrict option for that.

The Restrict option does not block someone from viewing your profile or removing messages. It only restricts them from viewing your content. If they open your profile, they will not be able to see any posts.

Reporting Instead of Blocking

Instagram gives a complete community guide and help. It restricts using spam and violations on its platform. You can report a Post or Profile on Instagram with hate speech or violations of community rules.

Content that is inappropriate violates community rules, or has hate speech can be reported. One can report the abuse of the specific content instead of blocking them. You can report Instagram abuse of someone's content by pressing three dots on the top right corner of the photo/video. It will open a menu with an option to report. Press the report button, and it will ask you why you are reporting the content. You can submit your answer by selecting any of the given options. Instagram also responds if the reported content has been removed or not.

Conclusion

Blocking any Instagram user is simple and easy. Following the guide mentioned above, you can block anyone with a public or private profile. Moreover, there are multiple other options if you do not want to see someone's content or restrict them from seeing your content.
